A therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rEGF) conjugated to the carrier protein rP64K (derived from Neisseria meningitidis), and emulsified with the adjuvant Montanide ISA 51. The vaccine is designed to induce a humoral immune response against both the exogenous rEGF and endogenous EGF, leading to antibody-mediated inhibition of endogenous EGF binding to its receptor, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). This mechanism may result in reduced tumor cell proliferation. The formulation uses Montanide ISA 51 as an adjuvant, which enhances immunogenicity by creating a depot effect at the injection site for slow antigen release and strong activation of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. It has been primarily investigated for use in non-small cell lung cancer and other cancers[7][10].
