Recombinant human fibrinogen Aα610 (rhFbgAα610) is a recombinant wild-type variant of human fibrinogen developed by the Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) in Leiden, Netherlands. It is being investigated for the treatment and prevention of coagulation disorders and coagulopathy, particularly perioperative bleeding in patients undergoing cardiac surgery such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The drug acts by supplementing fibrinogen levels, thereby targeting the coagulation cascade to promote clot formation and restore hemostasis. In the ex vivo clinical trial context (the FIBRINOGEN study), rhFbgAα610 is compared with another recombinant variant (Aα847) and the plasma-derived fibrinogen concentrate Haemocomplettan to evaluate its effects on blood coagulation and fibrinolysis using rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM).
