Overview

**Recombinant human insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (rhIGFBP-3)** is a biologically engineered form of the human IGFBP-3 protein, the major carrier of insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) in circulation[3][4][5]. IGFBP-3 modulates IGF bioactivity by prolonging half-life and controlling tissue availability, with both IGF-dependent functions (regulating delivery and activation of IGF signaling via IGF-1R pathways) and IGF-independent functions[2][3]. IGFBP-3 can interact with its receptor (IGFBP-3R), nuclear receptors (RXR-α, RAR-α, PPAR-γ, and thyroid hormone receptor α1), and participate in the regulation of apoptosis, gene transcription, and modulation of inflammation[1][2][3]. Recombinant human IGFBP-3 has been used therapeutically and experimentally to modulate cell growth, apoptosis, and inflammation, and may have roles in the treatment of pulmonary disorders (e.g., acute lung injury) and muscle diseases (e.g., myotonic dystrophy type 1), often in complex with rhIGF-1 to extend its half-life and reduce hypoglycemia risk[3][4].
