Recombinant human interleukin-11 (rhIL-11) derivative is a second-generation cytokine therapy developed by Shandong Ahua Biological Pharmaceutical. It is a modified version of interleukin-11 designed to stimulate megakaryocytopoiesis and increase platelet production in patients with chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT). By acting as an agonist for the interleukin-11 receptor complex, which consists of the IL-11Rα subunit and the gp130 signal transducer, it activates downstream signaling pathways such as JAK/STAT to promote the proliferation and maturation of megakaryocyte progenitor cells. This derivative is specifically engineered to maintain the hematopoietic efficacy of first-generation rhIL-11 (oprelvekin) while potentially offering an improved safety profile, particularly regarding common side effects like fluid retention and cardiovascular complications. It is primarily investigated for use in patients with malignant solid tumors and non-myeloid leukemia who are at risk of severe thrombocytopenia following myelosuppressive chemotherapy.
