Overview

Recombinant human keratinocyte growth factor-2 (rhKGF-2), also known as fibroblast growth factor-10 (FGF-10), is a recombinant protein that acts as a potent mitogen for epithelial cells. It specifically binds to and activates the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2b (FGFR2b), which is expressed on the surface of various epithelial tissues, including the cornea and skin. Activation of this receptor triggers signaling cascades that promote the proliferation, migration, and survival of keratinocytes, thereby accelerating the repair of epithelial injuries. Developed by the Guangdong Jinan University Gene Medicine Engineering Research Center, rhKGF-2 is primarily being investigated for ophthalmic indications such as corneal epithelial defects, corneal abrasions, chemical burns, and dry eye syndrome. By facilitating rapid re-epithelialization of the ocular surface, rhKGF-2 aims to restore corneal integrity and prevent complications such as infection or scarring.
