Overview

**Recombinant human macrophage colony-stimulating factor (rhM-CSF)** is a biologic drug that mimics the endogenous cytokine M-CSF, which is a hematopoietic growth factor. M-CSF acts via the CSF1 receptor (CSF1R) on myeloid lineage cells to promote the proliferation, differentiation, and survival of monocytes, macrophages, and related cells. In preclinical models, rhM-CSF has been shown to enhance microglial and macrophage phagocytic function, promote myelin debris clearance, and support neuro-repair mechanisms. Its clinical and experimental uses include potential applications in brain injury, demyelinating diseases, and facilitating myeloid recovery, although in some models or diseases M-CSF inhibition is actually the therapeutic target due to its roles in inflammation and cancer[2]. Unlike granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), rhM-CSF primarily targets the monocyte-macrophage lineage without direct stimulation of granulocyte colonies.
