Overview

KTP-001 is a recombinant human matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) developed primarily by Teijin Pharma and KM Biologics for the treatment of intervertebral disc displacement. It acts as a stimulant of matrix metalloproteinases, enzymes involved in the breakdown and remodeling of extracellular matrix components. The drug is classified as a new molecular entity and falls under the class of recombinant proteins. Its primary therapeutic area is skin and musculoskeletal diseases, with clinical development focused on lumbar disc herniation/intervertebral disc displacement[1][2]. Clinical trials have reached up to Phase 2; however, development for intervertebral disc displacement has been discontinued[2].
