Overview

Recombinant human osteopontin (rhOPN) is a recombinant form of the human osteopontin protein, a multifunctional matricellular glycophosphoprotein encoded by the SPP1 gene. It serves as a ligand for several integrin receptors (such as alpha-v beta-3, alpha-v beta-1, and alpha-v beta-5) and the CD44 receptor, mediating cell-matrix interactions and activating signaling pathways involved in inflammation, immune response, and tissue remodeling. In oncology research, rhOPN has been investigated for its role in colitis-associated carcinoma (CAC), where it appears to modulate mitochondrial respiratory chain activity and promote tumor cell proliferation. While primarily utilized as a research-use-only (RUO) reagent for in vitro and in vivo studies, its signaling pathways are significant targets in inflammatory and neoplastic diseases.
