Recombinant human papillomavirus nonavalent vaccine is a multivalent vaccine designed to protect against nine types of human papillomavirus (HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58). This specific candidate, developed by Shanghai Bowei Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Mabwell), utilizes a *Hansenula polymorpha* (yeast) expression system to produce recombinant virus-like particles (VLPs) of the L1 major capsid protein. These VLPs self-assemble to mimic the structure of the native virus, eliciting a potent neutralizing antibody response without being infectious. The vaccine is intended for the prevention of cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers, as well as genital warts and other HPV-related malignancies. It is currently in Phase III clinical trials in China, where its immunogenicity and safety are being evaluated in comparison to the reference product, Gardasil 9.
