Recombinant human plasma gelsolin (rhu-pGSN) is a laboratory-produced form of the naturally occurring protein plasma gelsolin, which is abundant in healthy blood. Plasma gelsolin plays a key role in modulating inflammation and supporting innate immune function by severing toxic filamentous actin (F-actin), binding inflammatory mediators, and enhancing pathogen clearance. Recombinant forms are being developed as adjunctive therapies for conditions characterized by severe inflammation or tissue injury, such as community-acquired pneumonia and other infectious or noninfectious inflammatory diseases. In preclinical models and early clinical studies, rhu-pGSN has shown potential to improve outcomes by replenishing depleted endogenous levels during acute illness[1][2][5][6].
