Overview

Recombinant human prolactin is a peptide hormone that corresponds to the full-length mature human prolactin. It is primarily known for its role in stimulating, initiating, and maintaining lactation in the mammary glands. Clinical studies have shown that r-hPRL increases milk volume in mothers with prolactin deficiency and in preterm mothers with lactation insufficiency when administered twice daily[2][3]. The drug also induces changes in milk composition consistent with normal lactogenesis and increases antimicrobially active oligosaccharide concentrations[3][7].
