Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant human RNLS (recombinant human renalase) is a recombinant protein formulation of the naturally occurring secreted flavoprotein renalase (RNLS). Developed by Bessor Pharma, it acts as an agonist of the plasma membrane calcium ATPase 4b (PMCA4b, encoded by the ATP2B4 gene) receptor. Binding of recombinant human RNLS to PMCA4b triggers a cytoprotective, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory signaling cascade involving the MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and JAK/STAT pathways. Bessor Pharma is developing this therapeutic protein for the treatment of acute kidney injury (AKI) and acute pancreatitis (AP), with preclinical in vivo proof-of-concept demonstrated for both indications.
