Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant human soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products (sRAGE) is a recombinant protein decoy receptor being developed for the prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes and other inflammatory conditions. sRAGE represents the soluble extracellular domain of the membrane-bound receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). It acts by binding and sequestering circulating RAGE ligands, such as advanced glycation end products (AGEs), high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), and S100 proteins, preventing them from engaging cell-surface RAGE and triggering downstream pro-inflammatory signaling cascades. Preclinical research led by Mater Research and the University of Queensland has demonstrated that short-term administration of sRAGE can expand functional regulatory T cells (Tregs), reduce pancreatic islet inflammation, and delay or prevent the onset of autoimmune diabetes.
