Recombinant human SPAG9-primed dendritic cells (rSPDCs) is an autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy designed for the treatment of cervical cancer. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and priming them ex vivo with recombinant human sperm associated antigen 9 (rhSPAG9) protein. SPAG9 is a cancer-testis antigen that is frequently expressed in various malignancies, including cervical cancer, but has restricted expression in normal tissues. Once administered intradermally, these primed dendritic cells present SPAG9 antigens to the immune system, activating tumor-specific CD4+ and CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and natural killer (NK) cells to target and eradicate SPAG9-expressing tumor cells. This advanced therapy medicinal product (ATMP) has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in India as an adjunct to conventional chemo-radiotherapy for patients with Stage IIIB cervical cancer who are positive for both HPV and SPAG9.
