Overview

Recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) is a full-length, glycosylated cytokine produced via biotechnology, typically in Chinese hamster ovary cells. It mimics the biological activity of endogenous human thrombopoietin by binding to and activating the thrombopoietin receptor (MPL), thereby stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells into megakaryocytes and promoting platelet production. rhTPO is primarily used for the treatment of thrombocytopenia, including chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia and immune-mediated conditions such as primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Clinical studies have shown that it increases peripheral platelet counts, alleviates bleeding risk, and reduces blood transfusion requirements in affected patients[1][2][3][5]. It is considered a highly specific platelet stimulator with potential roles in hematopoietic stem cell regeneration[2].
