Zesuning (recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone beta) is a recombinant protein developed by Zelgen Biopharmaceuticals for the post-operative management of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). It is designed to rapidly elevate serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in patients who have undergone thyroidectomy, without the need to discontinue thyroid hormone therapy. By binding to the TSH receptor, it stimulates residual thyroid tissue or metastatic lesions to increase iodine uptake and the secretion of thyroglobulin (Tg). This facilitates more accurate diagnostic assessments, including serum Tg testing and radioiodine whole-body scans (WBS), while avoiding the symptoms of hypothyroidism associated with hormone withdrawal. It was approved in China in January 2026 and is commercialized in partnership with Merck.
