Overview

Recombinant human tissue-type plasminogen activator derivative (rPA) is a thrombolytic agent designed to break down blood clots. It is a modified version of recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA), which itself is a biosynthetic form of human tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA). Its mechanism of action involves converting plasminogen to plasmin, an enzyme that subsequently degrades fibrin, the main structural component of blood clots. This leads to the dissolution of the clot and restoration of blood flow. rPA is currently being investigated for the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism.
