JZB32 is a recombinant human truncated plasmin, a proteolytic enzyme developed by Jingze Biotech for the treatment of symptomatic vitreomacular traction (VMT). As a truncated version of the human serine protease plasmin, it retains the catalytic domain necessary to cleave protein components of the vitreoretinal interface, specifically laminin and fibronectin. By enzymatically dissolving these "glue" proteins, JZB32 facilitates the separation of the vitreous from the retina, a process known as posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). This pharmacological vitreolysis approach aims to resolve vitreomacular adhesion and traction without the need for invasive pars plana vitrectomy. JZB32 is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China as a potential biosimilar or alternative to ocriplasmin.
