Overview

Recombinant human TWEAK (rhTWEAK) is a cytokine-based therapeutic candidate that mimics the activity of the endogenous TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) protein, a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. It functions as a specific ligand for the Fn14 (fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14) receptor, also known as TNFRSF12A. Developed by researchers at The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, rhTWEAK is being investigated for its potential in treating skin trauma and pigmented nevi. In the context of skin injury, TWEAK/Fn14 signaling is known to promote the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes and fibroblasts, as well as stimulate angiogenesis, thereby accelerating the wound-healing process. For pigmented nevi, the drug is explored for its ability to modulate melanocyte behavior, potentially through the induction of apoptosis or the inhibition of abnormal cell growth in the lesion.
