Recombinant IL4I1 is a recombinant version of the enzyme interleukin-4-induced protein 1 (IL4I1), which functions as an L-amino acid oxidase. It catalyzes the metabolism of tryptophan into indole-3-pyruvic acid (I3P), a metabolite that subsequently activates the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR). Research conducted at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital has identified IL4I1 as a key regulator of macrophage senescence and gut microbiota homeostasis. In preclinical models of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including DSS-induced colitis and colitis-associated cancer (CAC), treatment with recombinant IL4I1 has been shown to activate AHR-mediated cell cycle regulation in macrophages, thereby reducing senescence and alleviating intestinal inflammation.
