Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 4 (rITIH4) is a recombinant protein formulation of the acute-phase glycoprotein ITIH4. Developed by researchers at Taipei Medical University, rITIH4 is being investigated as an inhaled or intranasal therapeutic for chronic and acute respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, asthma, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ITIH4 acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic agent. Mechanistically, rITIH4 suppresses particulate matter (PM2.5)-induced neutrophil activation, NETosis, and TNF-alpha release [1]. It also attenuates oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in lung epithelial cells by inhibiting c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) activation, preventing the decrease of beta-catenin, and modulating the Hippo signaling pathway (YAP/TAZ activity).
