Overview

Recombinant interferon alfa-2 is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring protein interferon alpha-2, produced via recombinant DNA technology in Escherichia coli[3][8]. It is a type I interferon with antitumor, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activity, acting mainly by inhibiting viral replication and tumor cell proliferation and modulating the host immune response[3][4][8]. This drug is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of diseases including chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, hairy cell leukemia, follicular lymphoma, malignant melanoma, AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma, and genital warts, and is being studied for additional cancers and viral diseases[1][4][5][7][8].
