Overview

Recombinant interleukin-12 (rIL-12) is a cytokine that functions as an immunomodulator, primarily by promoting T-helper 1 (Th1) immune responses. It stimulates the proliferation and activity of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CD8+ T cells) and natural killer (NK) cells, and induces the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). These actions contribute to its anti-tumor effects, which include direct killing of tumor cells, inhibition of tumor angiogenesis by blocking blood flow, and enhancing vaccine-induced immune responses. Recombinant IL-12 has been investigated for its potential in various cancers and as an adjuvant in vaccines, as well as for its role in hematopoietic recovery and wound healing.
