Recombinant mouse interleukin-11 (rmIL-11) is a cytokine used primarily as a research tool to investigate the biological effects of IL-11 signaling in murine models. IL-11 is a member of the IL-6 family of cytokines and signals through a heterodimeric receptor complex consisting of the IL-11 receptor alpha (IL-11RA) and the glycoprotein 130 (gp130) subunit. In cardiovascular research, rmIL-11 has been shown to induce cardiomyocyte dysfunction, impair contractility by reducing calcium uptake, and promote profibrotic gene expression in fibroblasts. These effects contribute to heart failure pathologies, particularly Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF).
