Recombinant murine chemerin is a recombinant version of the murine chemoattractant protein chemerin (also known as RARRES2). It acts as an agonist for the Chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR1), which is expressed on various immune cells including macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, and immature dendritic cells. In preclinical oncology research, it has been investigated as an immunotherapeutic agent. When administered intratumorally, it promotes the recruitment of CMKLR1-positive leukocytes to the tumor microenvironment, thereby enhancing anti-tumor immune responses and inhibiting tumor growth in models such as B16 melanoma and JC breast cancer. The protein is naturally synthesized as an inactive precursor, prochemerin, which requires proteolytic cleavage for activation; recombinant active forms are used to bypass this requirement in experimental settings.
