ESAT6-CFP10 + TB-PPD refers to a diagnostic combination used in clinical trials to compare the performance of a novel recombinant tuberculosis skin test against the standard tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD). ESAT6-CFP10, also known as C-TST or the EC skin test, is a recombinant fusion protein comprising two Mycobacterium tuberculosis-specific antigens: Early Secretory Antigenic Target 6 (ESAT-6) and Culture Filtrate Protein 10 (CFP-10). These antigens are absent in the BCG vaccine and most non-tuberculous mycobacteria, allowing the test to differentiate between TB infection and prior BCG vaccination. Developed by Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biologic Pharmacy, the combination is administered via intradermal injection to evaluate sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing latent and active tuberculosis. The diagnostic readout is based on the diameter of induration at the injection site, reflecting a delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response.
