Recombinant Mycobacterium tuberculosis ESAT6 protein is a full-length recombinant form of the early secreted antigenic target 6 (ESAT-6) from M. tuberculosis (strain CDC1551), with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 11 kDa[1][2]. It is a secreted protein and acts as a strong T-cell antigen. ESAT-6 plays multiple roles in modulating the host immune response to infection and is responsible for bacterial escape into the host cytoplasm[1]. It belongs to the WXG100 family (ESAT-6 subfamily). Recombinant forms are typically used as research reagents or diagnostic controls; they are not approved for therapeutic or diagnostic use in humans[1]. The main application is as an immunological tool for studying TB pathogenesis and immune responses.
