Recombinant odontogenic ameloblast-associated protein (rODAM) is a biologic agent being researched for its potential anti-neoplastic properties. Naturally, ODAM is expressed in dental tissues, but it has also been identified in various epithelial cancers, including melanoma, breast, lung, colon, and gastric cancers. Preclinical studies, such as those conducted at the University of Tennessee, have shown that exogenous administration or transfection of rODAM can significantly inhibit the growth and migration of metastatic melanoma and breast cancer cells. Furthermore, the cellular localization of the ODAM protein serves as a prognostic indicator in clinical settings, with nuclear localization in primary tumors often correlating with negative outcomes.
