Overview

Recombinant proplatelet basic protein (PPBP), also known as CXCL7, is a recombinant form of the human chemokine belonging to the CXC family. PPBP is primarily derived from platelets and is a well-known mediator of leukocyte recruitment and activation. In the context of chronic inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, PPBP has been identified as a critical molecular link between cutaneous inflammation and vascular pathology. Research indicates that PPBP exacerbates atherosclerosis by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction in aortic endothelial cells through the ZNG1F pathway. While PPBP is a naturally occurring protein, the recombinant version is utilized as a research tool to investigate the mechanistic pathways of atherogenesis and to evaluate the efficacy of potential therapeutic interventions, such as anti-PPBP neutralizing antibodies.
