Recombinant protective antigen (rPA) anthrax vaccine is a protein subunit vaccine developed by DynPort Vaccine Company (DVC), a GDIT company, for the prevention of anthrax. The vaccine consists of a purified recombinant version of the Protective Antigen (PA) protein of *Bacillus anthracis*, produced in an *E. coli* expression system. PA is the key component of the anthrax toxin; the vaccine works by eliciting neutralizing antibodies that prevent PA from binding to cellular receptors, thereby blocking the entry of lethal factor (LF) and edema factor (EF) into host cells. This recombinant approach aims to provide a more consistent and better-characterized alternative to the older, filtrate-based Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed (AVA). The vaccine is typically formulated with an aluminum-based adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity.
