Recombinant Tiantan vaccinia HIV vaccine (rTV-HIV) is a viral vector vaccine candidate developed for the prevention and treatment of HIV-1 infection. It utilizes the Tiantan strain of the vaccinia virus, which was historically employed in China's smallpox eradication program, as a delivery vehicle. The vector is genetically engineered to express HIV-1 antigens, typically including the Gag, Pol, and Env proteins, to induce robust cellular and humoral immune responses. In clinical trials, it is frequently evaluated as part of a heterologous prime-boost strategy, often following priming with a DNA-based HIV vaccine (DNA-HIV). This approach aims to broaden and intensify the T-cell response against HIV-1. The development of this vaccine has been primarily supported by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and clinical partners like Beijing Youan Hospital.
