Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant Tiantan vaccinia vaccine (rTV or rTTV) is a replication-competent viral vector vaccine based on the Tiantan strain of vaccinia virus (VTT), which was historically used as a smallpox vaccine in China. Developed by the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention (China CDC) in collaboration with the National Vaccine and Serum Institute, the vaccine is engineered to express HIV-1 antigens, specifically the env, gag, and pol genes (such as from the CRF07_B'/C or CN54 strains). It is typically evaluated in a heterologous prime-boost regimen, where participants are primed with an HIV DNA vaccine and boosted with the recombinant Tiantan vaccinia vaccine. Clinical trials, including Phase I and Phase II studies in China, have demonstrated that this prime-boost regimen is safe, well-tolerated, and capable of eliciting robust HIV-specific humoral and cellular immune responses.
