Overview

Recombinant tuberculin is a diagnostic recombinant protein candidate being developed by the Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Sera (SPbNIIVS) for the detection of *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* infection. It is designed as a more specific alternative to the traditional tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) skin test. By utilizing recombinant antigens that are specific to pathogenic *M. tuberculosis* and absent in the *Bacillus Calmette-Guérin* (BCG) vaccine strain, this diagnostic tool aims to eliminate false-positive results common in BCG-vaccinated populations. The product is currently in preclinical development and is listed as an R&D priority for the institute.
