Overview

A cancer vaccine composed of a live, recombinant vaccinia virus engineered to express the gene for human mucin 1 (MUC1), a tumor-associated antigen that is overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in many epithelial cancers, including breast cancer. Upon administration, the vaccine is designed to stimulate an immune response against MUC1-expressing tumor cells by presenting the antigen to the immune system, thereby inducing both humoral and cellular immunity. The construct has been evaluated in early-phase clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in patients with advanced breast cancer. In some versions (e.g., TG1031), interleukin 2 (IL2) is also encoded to further enhance immune activation[1][2][4].
