Overview
This drug is a recombinant vaccinia virus engineered to express a Melan-A peptide, often a modified or analogue version, which functions as a tumor-associated antigen. The virus acts as an immunogen, delivering the antigen to stimulate the host's immune system, specifically cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), to recognize and destroy melanoma cells expressing the Melan-A antigen. This approach aims to elicit strong tumor-specific CTL responses in cancer patients, particularly in melanoma immunotherapy, and to overcome immune tolerance to self-antigens.
