A recombinant, protein-based nanoparticle COVID-19 vaccine produced using the baculovirus expression vector system in Sf9 insect cells. The process involves inserting the gene encoding a SARS-CoV-2 spike protein variant into a baculovirus, which is then used to infect Sf9 cells derived from *Spodoptera frugiperda* ovarian tissue. Inside these cells, large quantities of the spike protein are produced and harvested. The purified proteins are assembled into nanoparticles and typically formulated with an adjuvant such as Matrix-M to enhance immune response. This platform allows for rapid adaptation to new variants by updating the genetic sequence used for production[1][2][4]. The primary indication is prevention of COVID-19 caused by specific SARS-CoV-2 variants.
