Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The recombinant varicella vaccine is a prophylactic vaccine candidate being developed by Zydus Lifesciences for the prevention of chickenpox (varicella). This vaccine utilizes recombinant DNA technology to produce specific antigens of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), such as viral glycoproteins, to stimulate a protective immune response. Unlike traditional live-attenuated varicella vaccines, this recombinant subunit approach does not contain live virus, potentially offering a safer alternative for individuals with compromised immune systems. The project is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
