Overview

Recombinant vascular endothelial growth inhibitor (rVEGI), also known as recombinant TNFSF15 or TL1A, is a recombinant version of the endogenous cytokine VEGI, a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It acts as a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis and vascular permeability. In the context of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), rVEGI has been shown to counteract the pathological effects of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) by suppressing the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and reducing vascular permeability. Its therapeutic mechanism involves binding as an agonist to the death receptor 3 (DR3), which subsequently inhibits the JNK and NF-κB signaling pathways. This intervention addresses the VEGI/VEGF imbalance that characterizes OHSS, making it a promising candidate for the prevention and treatment of this serious complication of fertility treatments.
