The recombinant yeast hepatitis B vaccine is a prophylactic vaccine designed to prevent infection by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is produced using recombinant DNA technology in yeast expression systems such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker's yeast) or Hansenula polymorpha. The active ingredient is the purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), which stimulates an immune response leading to the production of protective antibodies against HBV. This vaccine does not contain live virus or human blood products, eliminating risks associated with earlier plasma-derived vaccines. It is indicated for all individuals at risk of HBV infection, including newborns—especially those born to HBsAg-positive mothers—healthcare workers, and others exposed to blood or body fluids[1][2][3][5]. The mechanism of action involves induction of humoral immunity via anti-HBs antibody production.
