Overview

Reconditioned monocytes (RM) are a type of cell therapy derived from healthy human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). These cells exhibit characteristics of both macrophages and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). They have demonstrated immunomodulatory properties, capable of regulating inflammatory environments. In a mouse model of sepsis, RM administration reduced serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and MCP-1, while increasing anti-inflammatory TGF-β, leading to improved survival. Furthermore, RM can be induced to differentiate into retinal neuron-like cells (RNLCs) in vitro and have shown the ability to integrate into the retina and improve visual function in an immune-deficient mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa.
