Overview

RECQL1-siRNA is an investigational RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic candidate developed by GeneCare Research Institute in collaboration with Solasia Pharma. The drug is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and silence the expression of the RECQL1 gene, which encodes the RecQ-like helicase protein. RECQL1 is a member of the RecQ helicase family and is essential for maintaining genomic stability by participating in various DNA repair and replication fork restart pathways. Because many cancer cells overexpress RECQL1 to manage replication stress and sustain rapid proliferation, silencing this gene can induce DNA damage, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis in tumor cells while sparing normal cells. The program is specifically being developed for the treatment of peritoneal metastases, a form of cancer spread throughout the abdominal cavity that is often resistant to conventional therapies. It is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
