Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recuvyra is a high-concentration (50 mg/mL) transdermal solution of fentanyl, a small molecule mu-opioid receptor agonist, developed by Elanco for veterinary use in dogs. It is FDA-approved for the control of postoperative pain associated with orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. The drug utilizes the patented Medistend transdermal delivery technology to establish a depot of fentanyl within the lipid layer of the stratum corneum, providing four days of continuous pain control from a single dose applied prior to surgery. Due to its high potential for abuse and human safety risks, Recuvyra is a Class II controlled substance and is distributed under a restricted Risk Minimization Action Plan (RiskMAP).
