Red blood cells O Rh D-negative are human erythrocytes (red blood cells) that lack both the A and B antigens of the ABO system and do not express the RhD antigen on their surface. This means they are classified as type O in the ABO system and as RhD negative in the Rhesus (Rh) system. These units are considered "universal donor" for red cell transfusions, meaning they can be safely given to patients of any ABO or Rh type, especially in emergencies when there is no time to determine a recipient's exact blood group. The absence of A, B, and D antigens minimizes risk of acute hemolytic transfusion reactions due to incompatibility[2][5][6]. The primary indication is for transfusion therapy in cases such as trauma, surgery, severe anemia, or other conditions requiring rapid restoration of oxygen-carrying capacity.
