Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Red pepper ethereal extract is a plant-derived preparation obtained by extracting red pepper (Capsicum annuum) with an organic ether solvent, concentrating lipophilic and volatile components such as capsaicinoids and terpenes. Preclinical studies in animal models have demonstrated that oral administration of red pepper ethereal extract can prevent dyslipidemia, reduce atherosclerotic lesion progression, and inhibit left ventricle hypertrophy, suggesting significant cardioprotective and anti-inflammatory effects comparable to simvastatin. The mechanism of action is attributed to antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, metabolic modulating, and possibly acetylcholinesterase-inhibiting activities, mainly via the action of capsaicinoids (e.g., capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin) and terpene-rich essential oil fractions[1][5][9][3][2][4].
