Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Red vine leaf extract is a natural product derived from the leaves of the *Vitis vinifera* (grapevine) plant. It contains a variety of bioactive compounds, primarily flavonoids such as quercetin-3-O-β-glucuronide and isoquercitrin. The extract is used mainly for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Its primary medicinal use is in the management of symptoms associated with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), including heavy legs, swelling, pain, tingling sensations, and varicose veins[1][3][5]. Mechanistically, red vine leaf extract has been shown to improve microcirculation and cutaneous oxygen supply by increasing nitric oxide synthase activity and reducing oxidative stress in endothelial cells[5]. The product demonstrates good tolerability in clinical studies but may cause mild gastrointestinal side effects or rashes in some individuals[1]. Developed by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma.
