Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Reepithol (also referred to as Reepitol) is a topical wound-healing ointment containing 10% refined resin of the Norway spruce (*Picea abies*) as its active ingredient. Developed and marketed by SPEY and manufactured by HELP S.A., Reepithol is indicated for the local treatment of both infected and uninfected, acute and chronic skin wounds, including abrasions, skin cracks, burns, pressure sores (decubitus ulcers), diabetic foot ulcers, and surgical wound complications. The therapeutic efficacy of Norway spruce resin is derived from its complex mixture of resin acids (such as abietic, dehydroabietic, and pimaric acids) and lignans, which provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative properties. Upon application, the ointment forms a protective physical barrier on the wound surface that prevents microbiological contamination, reduces local inflammation, and promotes re-epithelialization and tissue regeneration.
