Overview

Reflocibart (formerly CSL346) is a human monoclonal antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGF-B). Developed by CSL Behring, the drug was designed to treat diabetic kidney disease (DKD) by blocking the interaction between VEGF-B and its receptor, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR-1/Flt-1). The mechanism is based on evidence that VEGF-B signaling promotes the accumulation of lipids in metabolically active tissues, including the kidney, which contributes to insulin resistance and glomerular damage. By neutralizing VEGF-B, reflocibart aims to reduce albuminuria and slow the progression of renal dysfunction. However, clinical development for DKD was terminated in Phase 2 due to strategic portfolio decisions by the developer.
