Refluzero is a combination product developed by Malesci Pharmacobiological Institute, a subsidiary of the Menarini Group, indicated for the symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The formulation consists of chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and aluminum hydroxide. It operates through a dual mechanism of action: aluminum hydroxide acts as an antacid to neutralize gastric acidity, while chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid provide a mechanical barrier by adhering to the esophageal mucosa. This protective film shields the esophageal lining from the corrosive effects of gastric acid and pepsin, thereby alleviating symptoms such as heartburn, acid regurgitation, and epigastric pain. Refluzero is typically classified as a medical device in European markets and is available in oral dosage forms including chewable tablets and oral suspension sticks.
