Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Refresh Optive Advanced** is a lipid-containing, triple-action artificial-tear ophthalmic formulation developed by Allergan and subsequently managed within AbbVie. It contains carboxymethylcellulose sodium 0.5%, glycerin 1%, and polysorbate 80 0.5% as ocular lubricants, with castor oil as an inactive lipid component. The formulation lubricates and hydrates the ocular surface while supporting the tear-film lipid layer to reduce evaporative tear loss. ADV2 was evaluated in the completed randomized NCT01010282 dry-eye study, where it was noninferior to an existing lipid-based artificial tear for dryness symptoms and showed the greatest improvements among tested treatments in tear break-up time and Ocular Surface Disease Index score.
