Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Refresh Optive Fusion (also known as Optive Fusion) is an over-the-counter topical ophthalmic lubricant developed by Allergan (now a subsidiary of AbbVie) for the relief of moderate to severe dry eye syndrome. The formulation utilizes a dual-polymer technology that combines carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and sodium hyaluronate. CMC acts as a mucoadhesive lubricant that provides sustained protection to the ocular surface, while sodium hyaluronate serves as a viscosity enhancer that improves water retention and hydration of the cornea. Additionally, the solution contains glycerin and erythritol, which function as osmoprotectants to stabilize the tear film and protect corneal epithelial cells from hyperosmotic stress. The product is typically preserved with Purite, which breaks down into natural tear components upon contact with the eye.
